Someone needed to tell Portland St., Georgia, and Temple that it would take more than 61 to win. The Kansas Jayhawks soared in their opening game against Portland State. Brandon Rush led the Jayhawks with 18 points. The other two games were slightly closer. The Xavier Musketeers battled back from an 11 point deficit. The Musketeers persevered with defense, holding the Georgia Bulldogs to just 26 second-half points. Josh Duncan led all scorers with 20 points not to mention the help from Derrick Brown, who had a double double of his own (19 points and 11 rebounds). In the third game, Michigan State led a balanced attack against the A-10's Temple Owls. Raymar Morgan had 15 points for the Spartans while Goran Sutton led with 9 rebounds. Michigan State had nine players score, including 12 point from Chris Allen off of the bench.
