Chavis Turns Down Falcons

Defensive coordinator, John Chavis, has reportedly turned down an offer from the Atlanta Falcons. He interviewed for the Falcon's linebacker job, but when offered, decided to stay with the Vols. Chavis, who has relations with Falcons coaches, has been an assistant coach with the Vols since 1989. Chavis was recognized as the American Football Coaches Association’s 2006 Division I-A Assistant Coach of the Year. He returns a young defensive squad, led by the standout Eric Berry, who had a fantastic freshman year. Chavis will have to do some serious work this offseason, especially at linebacker and defensive line positions, where Tennessee loses starters Jerod Mayo, Ryan Karl, Xavier Mitchell, and JT Mapu.
