Xavier Mitchell Suffers A Concussion

Good news came in from the condition of Vols defensive lineman Xavier Mitchell. A CT scan and X-rays were taken and showed no spinal damage and it was determined that Mitchell had suffered a concussion. Mitchell was in a hard contact play with freshman cornerback Eric Berry Saturday against Cal. Mitchell laid motionless for nearly five minutes in what was a scary scene for the Vol players, coaches, and faithful. Mitchell was taken to a Berkeley-area hospital as a precaution but was able to return to Knoxville on the team plane late Saturday evening.
Fulmer wasn’t sure Sunday if Mitchell would be available for Saturday’s game against Southern Mississippi.
